1017 First day to St Giles New York－Welcome to My World

經過昨夜的疲勞後，在新的房間的睡眠品質還算不錯，不過第一天報到照慣例要提早到學校聽介紹和分班測驗，今天懷著期待前往學校交朋友！沿著W34th Street一路直走，約走15分鐘就可以到學校了！一路上體驗到了紐約上班族的步伐和繁忙的街景，第一次到學校要記好路線免得又迷路。

( On the first day to school, I tried keeping the way to school. I got up so early and I was excited about meeting new friends!)

學校就在帝國大廈的旁邊，地點非常熱鬧，跟舊金山一樣都選很好的點設校。學校在330 5^th Ave.上的7樓，一進到大門口看到熟悉的St Giles標誌，裝潢風格還蠻一致的。不過令我驚訝的是這以規模跟SF比真的是小太多了，新生大概只有15個不到，一樣提供了免費的咖啡，一切都好新鮮。只有一層樓的新分校，在等待的時間就來參觀一下吧！這裡兩旁就是教室。

(St. Giles New York is the newest branch, so there aren’t so many students studying. This week only l5 students started lessons. And only one floor!)

其中一間教室，窗戶往外看就可以看到紐約街景。( Very new classroom and has good view)

每間教室都有互動白板。 (They teach with a smart-board.)

嶄新的電腦教室，共有兩間。

(There are 2 computer labs and every computer is new!)

學校的Lounge，有個特別的名字叫King Kong!

(The lounge is named King Kong. Every coffee costs 1 USD.)

學校活動的公布欄，要參加的人自己填名字，所以可以先看到誰要去，再決定要不要一起去。可是活動感覺不夠刺激。

(The bulletin board shows the activities in this week. We have to write down our names on the lists. That means you could see who will go with you!)

English only!!!

這天坐在其中一間教室哩，填寫一些新生資料。負責課程的職員，整個早上以高八度的聲音非常自嗨的炒熱氣氛，無奈大家實在太沉悶。這個開始感覺不是很妙，全部新生只有我有一個亞洲人，跟舊金山差很多，半個韓國人都看不到。

(The staff who charges of courses raised her voice to show her passion, but everyone was silent. Only me come from Asia. Is it good or bad?)

其實這個早上我非常的疲倦，感覺眼睛都張不開，實在沒動力跟朋友的人聊天；加上本來要我再做一次分級測驗，我不只一次的反應我是轉校過來的，那考卷我也寫過一模一樣的，實在沒必要浪費我的時間再重來一遍啊！後來才先帶我去已經在上課的班級。一開教室門，是一個年輕男老師，但是，同學只有兩個，而且看起來有點年紀了！

( Because I transferred from SF branch, and test was the same, I thought I didn’t need to take the exam again! After talking to the staff, she brought me to a class. The teacher is young, but only two elder students!!)

勉強的要讓自己熱情的加入這個”大”家庭，我打起精神的參與討論，才發現她們的英文相當好！

(Even I almost fell asleep because of the flight, I still took apart in discussion. My classmates can speak very good English!)

總算熬到中午下課，感覺我應該要放棄交到朋友的願望了！一個人在附近繞繞認識一下環境。附近就有Macy’s，在舊金山也有一間。

(I almost gave up making friends from the class! During the lunch time, I walked around the school and found something to eat.)

街道非常繁忙，真的是大都市！

(NYC is really super busy! There are people and cars everywhere!)

隨便買了自助餐的水果吃一吃，趕回學校上課，看到名單上根本沒我的名字。從我報到後，她們就一直搞不定我的問題，一團混亂！最後才跟我說下午課明天再開始，順延到禮拜五，我這天下午就可以自由了。

(After lunch, I came back to school to check the list, but I couldn’t find my name! What a mess! I had to talk to them many times to deal with my problem! Finally they said my afternoon class started from Tuesday, so I was free this afternoon!)

學校附近就有一間圖書館，我是一定會進去看看的啊!隨便逛了一下，本來要問辦借書證的事，結果職員都很冷淡，要我去那裏哪裡問的，等了半天也沒看到人，暫且放棄，讓我對紐約開始有了不好的印象。

There is a library near the school. Of course I entered it to take a look. I supposed to apply a library card, but the staffs were not willing to answer me with cool faces. From then I really missed SF full of friendly people!)

The Empire State Building. 帝國大廈。

附近有Koreatown，都寫了韓文。這時還有一個非洲人跑來跟我說韓文，後來知道我說中文還跟我說她住過天母，還想要抱我用鬍子碰我的臉，一直要我的電話說他想學中文，他想學中文關我屁事啊!我趕快逃之夭夭。

( When I was in Koreatown, an African spoke me in Korean. After he knew I speak Chinese, he wanted to hug me and touched my face with his beard. He also tried to ask my phone number, he said he wanted to learn Chinese. That’s not my business! I almost ran away!)
