All it started at a simple idea. At the beginning I just wanted to take every transportation of MTA system to visit around New York; after hearing from my teacher’s recommend, I decided to take Metro-North Hudson Line which driving along Hudson River and is rated highly on Yelp! On the other hand, it’s hard to travel out of Manhattan without a car; also one of my American dreams is driving a car in USA countryside! That’s why I wanted to do! I only considered about the car rental plan for three days and must let it come true!
The biggest problem is I rarely drove before! After I got my driving license, within 10 years I only drove two times and only for 20 minutes and always someone stayed with me! Actually I was so nervous. It would be a big challenge for me! Every family and close friends worried about me a lot! The day before my trip, I googled the traffic signs in USA! “God bless me, please! “, I yelped!
On the early morning, I waited for a bus to subway station, I wondered if I could see the sun tomorrow or not.
I wanted to take Hudson Line at 8:47 am and felt excited; at lease I could see the scenery along Hudson River. I passed trails many times; finally I could take it!
The first experience on the railroad! As the time went by, It quickly drove out of Manhattan and saw many bridges which connect New Jersey and the east of New York State.
Recently, I felt sick and tired of the city life. I wanted to enjoy the nature. This railroad goes very closely to the river!
After almost 80 minutes, finally I arrived Beacon station! At the moment, my lone trip was going to begin!
While I was waiting for picking-up by car-rental company, I realized I didn’t have any detail plans after getting a car. The staffs in the company are two young ladies. They only asked my some documents for rental procedures and even asked me to buy insurance! After 10 minutes, I got the car key and they left me alone! The car is small not so fancy. Most important of all, I don’t like its color!
In fact, I stayed in the car for a while. I almost forgot the functions of gears, lights and even brake and gas pedal! Nobody could tell me, I just stepped on the gas pedal and left!
First I drove back to the station and got used to driving. The reason I took pictures first is that I thought if I failed, at least I could pretend I can drive well! Ha!
Next I decided to the famous art museum, Dia: Beacon, which is displaying visionary arts, for artists’ crazy and unique artworks. The space in the museum and the room of displaying arts matches well! It can inspire many new creative ideas!
The garden
The café and the bookstore
I spent here for two hours enjoying the special Avant-garde arts. The view out of the museum is also nice.
Drove to the next destination!
Before driving, I needed to refill gas. The first time I did it by myself! I talked to the boss of the gas station, the people here are welcoming.
I supposed to see a historic island , but I couldn’t find a place to see closer. The only way is taking the Metro-North again. On the way I stopped if I saw good views. I drove back and forth along the river.
Finally stopped at the entrance of Mountain Beacon. It was a little cold and late. I didn’t walk in the path.
The hill where is near Hudson River must be good, so I decided to walk up along the trail.
Who rides a horse here?!
From here, I could see the railroad and mountains across from Beacon!
Try to take some conceptive pictures.
I enjoyed this moment! I felt I was full of energy!
That’s a castle where I want to visit sinking a half in the river.
If I visited in summer or fall, the scenery may be more stunning!
As the time went by, it was almost dinner. I stopped at a food court which is common in countryside in USA.
I bought dinner in a Chinese restaurant. I think Chinese people are so strong! We can find Chinese people and food everywhere!
While I was walking out of the restaurant, I saw the lights in the sky were so great!
Here came to my next challenge. I had to drive on the freeway and crossed over Hudson River!
I was nervous and relied on GPS, finally I arrived Newburgh! I didn’t book any motels. At the beginning, I drove to a motel, but the price was higher than which I saw on the Internet. I decide to drive to another motel and booked a room in the car.
It’s called Super 8, which is a chain motel. He said he couldn’t find my reservation! He called to the travel website to check my reservation. I waited for 20 minutes to check in!
I was tired and hungry, also wanted to pee! When I got in the room, the first thing was peeing! But I found the toilet was so dirty! The room is too big for me, one person!
At the end, I came true my dream and did my lone tour safety on the first day!
Good job, Shuan!
