I made a lot of first-time experiences. Today I woke up in a empty room; I realized I stayed in a motel, of course I had to have breakfast alone! This motel supplies simple American breakfast. When I walked to dining room, other guests looked strangely at me. I guess it’s weird a weak Asian girl stayed here without company!

Last night I supposed to cancel the second-night reservation, but the staff said I couldn’t get any refund; I had to stay here one more night! I left my stuff and started my single tour! My room was the third from the right side o the first floor. From the room, I could see my car over there.

I took some brochure at the motel, then I saw the view of Mohonk Mountain House is beautiful. I decided to visit there, but it took 50 minutes to get there! Okay, the second I could drive better! On the country roads, the good weather made me feel lucky. I recalled the time when I was in southern France!

My friends said they wanted to see me driving. It’s just like that!

SAM_1285.JPG

That’s where I was going to. Mohonk mountain House founded in 1869 is a Victorian-castle style resort near Lake Mohonk. I am attracted by its breathtaking scenery.

I drove on curvy mountain roads, I was nervous when I turned the steering wheel…I was afraid I would drive down the mountains! I asked the staff of Mohonk Mountain House, but she said only overnight guests or people reserving their meals are allowed to enter. Its lunch buffet cost 69 USD! I refused and drove to another way. On the way I saw a group of horses!

SAM_1287.JPG

Immediately I stopped my car to get a closer watching.

SAM_1290.JPG

SAM_1294.JPG

At the beginning, they were far from me, but they were so curious and walked to me! I thought they are close to humans! We watched each other for a while, the they started to play and run!

 SAM_1295.JPG SAM_1298.JPG SAM_1302.JPG SAM_1303.JPG SAM_1310.JPG

Horses are really humanistic animals. I want to own them! Some people driving pass by stopped to see them too, we had some short conversations. Traveling alone is you have to TALK with strangers anytime! One woman said the horsed wanted to be treated!

SAM_1311.JPG SAM_1312.JPG SAM_1313.JPG SAM_1314.JPG SAM_1315.JPG SAM_1316.JPG SAM_1317.JPG SAM_1318.JPG SAM_1321.JPG SAM_1322.JPG SAM_1326.JPG SAM_1327.JPG

I felt so comfortable staying in nature!

SAM_1329.JPG

SAM_1330.JPG SAM_1332.JPG SAM_1334.JPG

No falling leaves?! That’s alright, I did by myself!

SAM_1336.JPG SAM_1337.JPG SAM_1338.JPG SAM_1339.JPG

I lost my goal after refusing the expensive buffet, but I think it’s just once in my life! After I paid the money, I kept driving for 10 minutes to get there.

SAM_1341.JPG SAM_1344.JPG

The buffet looked nice, but I found they were some same dishes put different places. Not too many choices.

SAM_1346.JPG SAM_1347.JPG SAM_1348.JPG SAM_1349.JPG SAM_1350.JPG SAM_1352.JPG

I sat by the window, of course all the guests at least were two persons, but I didn’t care.

SAM_1354.JPG

SAM_1364.JPG

I enjoyed this moment.

SAM_1355.JPG SAM_1357.JPG SAM_1360.JPG SAM_1362.JPG SAM_1366.JPG

Even though I didn’t eat a lot, I still felt stuffed! I took my tripod to visit around the inner resort.

SAM_1367.JPG SAM_1369.JPG

The decoration is a kind of old-fashioned but castle-styled; I like it.

SAM_1405.JPG SAM_1406.JPG SAM_1407.JPG SAM_1410.JPG SAM_1411.JPG SAM_1416.JPG SAM_1417.JPG SAM_1418.JPG

SAM_1412.JPG

I gained the idea for the information desk to know where to see the best view. People were helpful here. If it was in summer, there will be lots of hiking routes to choose. But most of them are closed for the winter season.

SAM_1419.JPG

The best part was coming, the lake behind the resort! When I pushed the door walking out of the hotel, I was shocked by the stunning scenery! The water in the last was frozen!

SAM_1385.JPG

At the time I thought it was worthy to spend 70 dollars to enter here.

SAM_1377.JPG SAM_1381.JPG SAM_1383.JPG SAM_1387.JPG SAM_1392.JPG SAM_1395.JPG SAM_1402.JPG

Every room has the privilege to see it.

SAM_1393.JPG SAM_1403.JPG

It says Mohonk Lake is also called Sky lake, because it’s water is from the rain.

 SAM_1426.JPG SAM_1428.JPG

I like nature; never feel bored. Especially I could take hundreds of pictures!

SAM_1423.JPG

SAM_1431.JPG

The roads were also frozen.

The lake and the mountain views are so amazing!

The benches here are donated. The donators can leave some words for someone important for them. I saw the touched one.

I have so many ideas about my photos.

There is a ice-skating rink. I saw a father was teaching his kid with a chair. I need it too.

SAM_1495.JPG

I almost stayed here all day long. It was getting darker, so I thought I had to leave as early as possible. Driving on the curvy roads is more dangerous.

SAM_1507.JPG

 SAM_1508.JPG

I was safe to go back to the town, but it was still early. Anyway I would stay in Newburgh that night, so I drove to New Paltz which is a small town near Mohonk Mountain.

SAM_1514.JPG

Walking around the town, most of stores were closing around 6:30 pm. It’s not a touristy town; I felt local life here.

Because of the stuffing buffet in the afternoon, I couldn’t eat anymore. I rested at a Starbucks and listened to locals’ life.

SAM_1526.JPG

On the way I decided to drive more; I tried to drive on the highway to Beacon ( the station I arrived and leave the next day.) It ‘s also the first time! The toll is 1 USD.

0130  Going back to NYC

I had to arrive to school before 9:10. I got up at 5:30, at the time it was dawn.

SAM_1580.JPG

Time to say goodbye to it.

SAM_1581.JPG

From Newburgh to Beacon, it is charged toll. And also from that day, the toll is raised to 1.5 USD.

SAM_1583.JPG

SAM_1585.JPG

On the platform I was waiting for the rain to Manhattan. I guess there are many people commuting between Beacon to Manhattan every day.

I had no seat, but I owned the whole window-view.

During the 80 minutes, I tried to remember how wonderful this tour it was.

SAM_1597.JPG

SAM_1600.JPG

I got off the Grand Central Terminal; walking on the old dirty path with others.

SAM_1605.JPG

 SAM_1606.JPG

It’s so popular here! Many men were waiting in line.

SAM_1607.JPG

The busiest place in New York. I never came here on weekday mornings. Today I was not late to school!

SAM_1608.JPG

SAM_1609.JPG

It was a warm-up mini tour for my next Denver tour!
